Colin Griffen
Personal Trainer, Triathlon Coach, Movement Coach

What you like best about personal training/teaching classes?
There's no feeling in the world like seeing a client achieve a goal or set a PR. This is my dream job.

Why did you become a trainer/instructor?
I had always enjoyed studying the science behind physical preparation as a hobby, and eventually I decided to pursue it as a career. Once I realized that I was hoping to do this for the rest of my life, I never looked back. I never imagined that I could find a job that has me waking up early because I'm so excited to work, but here I am!

Favorite type/mode type of training?
I try and understand as many training methods as possible so that I can apply whichever fits the client best. Bodyweight training, barbell training, suspension training, plyometrics and the "shock method"... all have their place. One of my mentors once told me that "there are no bad exercises, only incorrect applications," and I've tried to take that to heart.

Things I am currently working on / training for:
My own training never stops and professionally I'm always seeking to increase my abilities as a coach. Right now I'm studying Soviet-era training methods and working on my movement coaching.

Your own athlectic accomplishments:
I was a runner and captain of the Cross Country team in high school, but after an injury I began to include weights, cycling, and swimming in my training. Triathlon was the natural next step, and at 19 years old I finished Ironman Wisconsin in just over 12 hours. I am now a much more balanced, healthy athlete.

Hobbies/What you do when you are not training:
When I'm not training or working, I like hanging out with my roommates and reading fiction. I love being outside.
